OUR STORY

Tikes Lacrosse Club started in the spring of 2012 in Massapequa by Tim Byrns and his wife Melisa Byrns. Their daughter had just turned three and they were looking for a program that introduced lacrosse to young children. They wanted their daughter in a social, active, and fun setting, and there was nothing out there for lacrosse. As a result, Tim held his first clinic consisting of only 8 boys and girls. The clinic included basic lacrosse skills, age appropriate learning, and gross motor drills. The kids loved it and so did the coaches! They were meeting each week and word was quickly spreading about this amazing program. Soon enough Coach Tim and Coach Melisa started holding more clinics in the spring and then extended those clinics into summer, fall, and winter sessions. Tikes Lacrosse grew each year and when their younger son turned three he joined in the fun and began his lacrosse training. It became a family business that fostered the Massapequa Lacrosse Community. Their children now help coach the youngest of players and help to grow the game!

Tikes Lacrosse Club prides itself on teaching and coaching Lacrosse to children in a safe, fun, and effective way. We are passionate about our programs, our coaching techniques, and the development of our players. The drills are designed to teach the basics of lacrosse, and the fundamentals of sports. Our clinics create socialization, build and develop gross motor skills, encourage teamwork, and keep the kids active.

Our Programs

MISSION STATEMENT

Our drills and games teach basic lacrosse skills, hand/eye coordination, listening skills, and include age appropriate learning(numbers, letters, counting, colors etc). Every clinic begins with a fun-filled warm-up that includes dynamic stretching and calisthenics. We introduce carrying and shooting of the ball. We introduce scooping of ground balls, and include hand/eye coordination drills along with footwork and proper movement of the body. A positive team environment is always emphasized.

Our professional coaches are highly skilled, have unique coaching styles, and pride themselves on the success of each child. We maintain a low coach to child ratio consisting of 4-5 kids per professional coach. Players are separated by age and by ability and as your child develops, he or she will move up and learn new skills. Each clinic is 45 minutes and every child receives a Tikes T-shirt.
